What This Looks Like to a Respondent¶
A respondent opening a survey link encounters consent information before their answers begin being recorded, giving them a genuine opportunity to understand the study before participating - not a formality they're forced past without a real choice.
Declining to Participate¶
Consent is a real choice, not a checkbox respondents are funneled past regardless of their answer. A respondent who doesn't want to proceed after seeing the consent information isn't forced into the survey.
Your Responsibility as the Survey Owner¶
The consent step in the take flow supports compliant research practice, but it doesn't replace the judgment you need to bring to your own survey design - accurate descriptions of what you're collecting, careful wording around sensitive topics, and responsible use of responses once collected are still yours to get right. Consistent Across Distribution Methods¶
Whether a respondent reaches your survey through your own link or through Panel Recruitment, the same consent principles apply - respondents are informed participants in a research study regardless of how they arrived at it.

Check your survey's settings for available customization of consent-related content - the underlying consent step itself is a consistent part of the take flow across surveys.
Does declining consent count as a response in my data?
A respondent who declines before providing answers doesn't contribute response data the way a completed or partial response does - check your Survey Management page for how this is reflected in your response counts.
Is consent handled differently for Panel Recruitment respondents versus my own audience?
