How Opionate Handles Payment Security

Every purchase - buying credits, subscribing to a plan - runs through an established third-party payment provider rather than through payment infrastructure Opionate built itself. This isn't a shortcut; it's the standard, safer approach most software companies take, since it means your card details never pass through or get stored on Opionate's own servers.

Each Purchase Is Its Own Transaction

There's no stored payment method sitting in your account waiting to be charged automatically - each purchase is processed as its own transaction through the payment provider at the time you make it. This means there's nothing payment-related saved on Opionate's side between purchases for someone to compromise, because there's nothing stored to compromise.

What Opionate Keeps a Record Of

What Opionate does retain is a record of the transaction itself - what was purchased, when, and its outcome - so you have a usable billing history (see Finding and Downloading Your Payment Receipts) without that record including your actual card or payment account details, which stay with the payment provider throughout.

Verifying Transactions

Purchases are verified through the payment provider's own confirmation process before credits or a plan change are applied to your account - a transaction has to genuinely complete on the provider's side before anything changes on yours.

Why This Approach Is More Secure, Not Less

Building and maintaining your own payment storage introduces a large, ongoing security surface - one most software companies deliberately avoid by relying on a payment provider whose whole business is handling this safely and who face significant regulatory requirements to do so. Not storing your payment details ourselves means there's simply less to protect and less that could go wrong on our end.

FAQ

Does Opionate ever see or store my full card number?
No - the payment provider handles that directly. Opionate's own systems only see the outcome of a transaction, not your card details.

Why can't I save a payment method for faster future purchases?
There's currently no stored payment method feature - each purchase is a fresh transaction through the payment provider.

Is my billing history in Opionate as sensitive as my payment details?
Your billing history shows what you purchased and when, not your actual payment information - it's handled with the same account-level protections as the rest of your account data.

What happens if a payment fails or is disputed?
Reach out through Opionate's support channel - payment issues are resolved directly by the team in coordination with the payment provider's own dispute process.
