Reusing Images and Videos Across Surveys with the Media Library¶
Run enough concept tests and the same handful of assets keep coming back - last quarter's packaging render, a logo lockup you're still iterating on, a product demo video you've now tested three different ways. Without a shared place to keep them, each new test means re-uploading the same file again, and duplicating a survey that references it means re-uploading it a second time on top of that, just to end up with two identical copies of the same bytes sitting in two different places.
The Media Library fixes this by making an uploaded image or video belong to you, not to any one survey - upload it once, and it's available to any Stimulus Section or Pairwise Comparison section in any Advanced Survey you build afterward.
How It Works¶
Every image or video you upload becomes an asset in your own personal Media Library, independent of the specific survey you happened to be building when you uploaded it. From inside a Stimulus Section or Pairwise Comparison section's builder, you can either upload something new or pick an existing asset straight from your library instead - no need to leave the builder to go find the file again.
Upload the exact same file a second time, and Opionate recognizes it and reuses the existing asset rather than storing a duplicate copy - your library stays clean even if you upload the same product shot from three different surveys over time.
Why This Matters for Duplicating and Reusing Work¶
Because assets live in your library rather than inside any single survey, duplicating a survey (or building a new one from a template) that references an existing image or video points at the same library asset instead of copying the underlying file. Practically, that means duplicating a ten-image concept test doesn't quietly create ten new copies of files you already had - and it's also why deleting a survey doesn't clean up any media on its own: the asset still belongs to your library and may still be in use elsewhere, so it's left in place rather than removed as a side effect of deleting one survey that referenced it.
Where You'll Use It¶
- The standalone Media page in your workspace, for browsing, uploading, and managing your library directly - useful for a batch upload of everything you'll need for an upcoming round of concept testing, before you've even started building the survey itself.
- Directly inside the Stimulus Section and Pairwise Comparison builders, via the same picker - upload fresh or choose from your existing library without breaking your flow to go manage files somewhere else.
Best Practices¶
- Upload once, reuse deliberately. If you're testing the same packaging concept across two different Advanced Surveys, choose it from your library the second time rather than uploading it again - you'll get the identical asset either way, but picking it from the library is faster.
- Name assets while you're thinking about the project, not months later. A library that grows for a while without names attached gets harder to search through than one you keep tidy as you go.
- Remember that deleting a survey doesn't delete its media. If you're cleaning up old test surveys, manage unused assets from the Media page itself if you also want to remove the underlying files.

Is my Media Library shared with anyone else on my team?
No - it's scoped to your own account, the same way your surveys are.
Does uploading the same image twice use up extra storage?
No - Opionate recognizes an identical re-upload and reuses the existing asset rather than storing a second copy.
Does the Media Library work with Sequence Flow sections?
No - Sequence Flow items are plain text, with no image or video involved. The Media Library applies to Stimulus Sections and Pairwise Comparison sections, both of which are built around an uploaded image, video, or 3D model.
If I delete a survey, does that delete the images and videos it used?
No - your Media Library assets are independent of any one survey and aren't removed when a survey referencing them is deleted, since the same asset may still be used elsewhere.
Can I upload directly from the Media page before I've even started building a survey?
Yes - the standalone Media page supports uploading and organizing assets on their own, ahead of whatever survey you'll eventually use them in.
